Dallas Therapist Headshots and Branding Photography – Are Professional Photos Necessary?

YES! Keep reading to find out why.

While I believe everyone could use a professional headshot, certain professions can benefit even more from that experience. As a therapist, you’re asking for such a deep and personal level of trust with your clients and having a professional level headshot can easily and quickly show who you are and that you’re safe and approachable. For all of your Dallas therapist headshots and other photography needs, read on!

While you could certainly try setting up a camera on a tripod with a timer and hoping for the best, you potentially will just be making more work for yourself and ending with a headshot that won’t be as beneficial to you, your business, or your potential clients.

A large portion of my job is to not only help you look your best but to make you comfortable in the process. Let’s be frank – posing that looks great can often feel super weird! One little tweak to your chin placement or how you’re distribute your weight can make a world of difference in the final product. Luckily, you don’t need to worry about those things; I’m here to make you look and feel your best through the whole process!

Additionally, it can be intimidating to get in front of a camera. I want nothing more than to help you feel comfortable and confident, so you can shine through in the best headshot possible. It’s not an instant change, but I find that most people really warm up to the experience and actually enjoy having their picture taken by the end of a session!

Why do I need branding photography as a therapist?

Valid question! The headshot can help express and explain who you are, but it doesn’t help convey the whole therapy experience. Having a branding session gives me an opportunity to document your workplace and its atmosphere to potential clients. Like with the headshots, potential therapy clients are looking for a safe place to be at their most vulnerable and having a collection of photos to show how that experience looks and feels can make a world of difference in their comfort levels and willingness to reach out.

A branding session could involve me coming to your office and documenting the location, action shots of you working, and more. If you mostly work remotely, we could still showcase your virtual office and how that process works as well.

Beyond the benefits for potential clients, a branding session could also help open the doors to reaching other professionals in your field: professional therapist associations, therapeutic journals, etc.

What can I do to prepare for a shoot?

So you feel that you need a professional headshot and/or a brand shoot (or maybe the information above helped convince you!). That still doesn’t mean you know exactly what to expect or how to prepare for what’s to come. Don’t worry! I’ll make sure to clear the air and make everything clear.

As far as preparations go, the main considerations are your clothes, your hair and makeup, and the location that we’ll shoot at.

For clothes: wear something that you feel comfortable in! Yes, you certainly want to look nice and wear something professional, but if it doesn’t complement your body type, your style, etc., it’s ultimately going to be a detriment to the final quality of your headshot. Also, don’t go out and buy something a few days before (or the day of!) the shoot. Make sure it’s something you’ve worn before and that makes you feel even more like you. I’d even recommend trying the outfit on a few days before and taking a few test photos with your phone. As mentioned above, your authenticity and trustworthiness are paramount in the therapy world. (And yes, you can absolutely send me the photos you take for my opinion!)

For hair and makeup, I can recommend some truly fantastic artists! Are you wanting to get completely made up? Are you wanting something more natural and just to enhance your features? These teams can absolutely make either of those happen. If you want to check out one of my favorite teams in DFW, here’s a link to Lashes and Lace’s production makeup page.

Another consider for hair and makeup: some artists and teams also have the option to stay during the shoot to make sure you stay as touched up and stylish as possible for the whole session. Need a quick zhuzh? They’ll be on standby to get you to 100%!

Additionally, here’s a previous blog post I created with additional tips and tricks to prepare for any headshot or branding shoot. Between your own preparations and working with a few professions, you’ll be more than ready for the day of!

What can I expect during a shoot?

The day of the shoot is here: your clothes are laid out, the hair and makeup artist is on their way, and your office is all tided and ready. Now what’s next?

When I arrive, I’ll make sure to meet you (and anyone else) and give the location a quick scouting once over. Once that’s good to go and all of my gear is prepped, we can get started!

As mentioned earlier, posing is weird. It may take a moment to loosen up and acclimate to the subtle changes you need to make to ensure the best possible photo. You don’t need to worry at all about that! I’ll give you as much guidance as needed.

To top it off, for Dallas therapist headshots (or any professional headshots!), I like to bring an iPad that’s linked with my camera, so I can show you possible headshot candidates in real time. We can rate the best ones, figure out what you do/don’t like about the initial photos, etc. (Isn’t technology great?)

For the branding side, we can focus on capturing your location, the ambiance, action shots, candid shots, and/or posed shots. It really is determined by what your wanting to portray for your business. And if you’re not 100% sure, I can certainly help make recommendations, too!

How do I get the process started?
